Moon Goddess Arete, left of center on Temple Crag, was my first long alpine route, many years ago.

The beautiful Tahquitz Rock above Idyllwild is my "home crag," and I have been climbing there since I started.

Chamonix, France

Karen and I traveled to France for our friends' wedding. We took a side trip to Paris as well as to Chamonix in the French Alps. Here, an extreme skier prepares to ski-paraglide.

Famous alps, well-known among climbers. Right to left: Dent du Geant, Grand Jorasses, Aiguille du Grepon, Grands Charmoz, Les Drus.

We stayed in rooms at the Chateau de Challain in the Loire Valley, where our friends Jason and Fiona were married.

Everest Region, Nepal

One of the first big trips that Karen and I took after we met was a trek to the Everest Region in Nepal. Among the sights we visited in Kathmandu was the stupa at Swayambhunath.

I like to think of this photo as "Map of Thamel"--an apt symbol of the tourist district in Kathmandu.

The trek begins after a flight from Kathmandu to the mountain landing strip at Lukla. Here, one of many giant, scripture-carved boulders on the way to Everest.

Half Dome, Yosemite

In 2001, my friend David and I climbed the Regular Northwest Face route on Half Dome in Yosemite. The route is 23 pitches, and we climbed it mostly free up to 5.11, aiding the bolt ladders and a few other very hard sections.

The route goes up the left skyline, topping out just left of the "visor" at the top.

Looking down from high on the route.

We climbed pretty much nonstop for 15 hours on day one, from 4:00 am to 7:00 pm, reaching Big Sandy Ledge about three-quarters of the way up just in time to settle in for the night.

The next morning we topped out before noon. Here we are below the visor with just a couple more pitches to go.

Prodigal Sun, Zion NP

In 2002, I aid climbed Prodigal Sun in Zion, to the right of center. You may be able to make out a climber in red in an alcove near where the lower third of the climb is hidden in shadow.

Loving it!

A stiched-together panorama, with the Touchstone route on the canyon opposite us. We ended up topping out at around 2:30 am and had to hike the four miles out to our campsite at the park entrance.
